In 2006 the Joint Coalition on Health was awarded funding from the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) to represent and coordinate the outreach and enrollment activities of a consortium of community-based organizations that included Community Health Connections, Inc., HealthAlliance Hospital, Heywood Hospital, and the Montachusett Opportunity Council. The efforts of this consortium proved highly successful with outreach conducted to over 24,000 individuals and more than 5,100 individuals enrolled into Mass Health, the Children’s Medical Security Plan, Commonwealth Care, the Uncompensated Care Pool/Health Safety Net, and the Gateway Health Access Program (GHAP). GHAP is aimed at helping uninsured people access affordable healthcare by connecting people to existing healthcare programs and by providing reduced-fee care for those who do not qualify for existing programs. This care is provided by a network of healthcare providers throughout the region and includes dental services, home health care, mental health and substance abuse services and primary and specialty medical care. In fiscal year 2010, GHAP provided services to 7,717 residents from across North Central Massachusetts. For more information please visit http://www.heywood.org/about/ghap.html.
